THE MOON FREQUENCY

Synodic Moon

The Moon frequency is a sponsored project of FRACTURED ATLAS, a non-profit arts service organization.

THE MOON FREQUENCY is inspired by the Lunar Effect and The Seven Moon Frequencies calculated by Hans Cousto, Swiss mathematician and musicologist.
In 1978, Cousto discovered the natural law of the Cosmic Octave. He linked his calculation to myriad periodic phenomena, including planetary orbits, weather patterns, colors, rhythms, and tones. Using the Cosmic Octave, Hans Cousto transposed astronomical periods into audible frequencies.

The Seven Moon Frequencies are:

Synodic Moon: 210.42 Hz
Moon Culmination: 187.61 Hz
Sideric Moon: 227.43 Hz
Metonic Cycle: 229.22 Hz
Saros Period: 241.56 Hz
Apsidis Rotation: 246.04 Hz
Moon Knot: 234.16 Hz

Music and sounds are composed through analog synths and filters modulating sound waves tuned on the Seven Moon Frequencies. The goal is to give voice to the Moon by way of music tuned to its frequency.

Since ancient times the Lunar Phases have influenced culture, language, calendars, art, and mythology. The Moon effects not only tides but life, quietly manipulating human behavior, fertility, and sleep.
